  • Welcome to the Coastal Group of Parishes.

Happisburgh'The Coastal Group of Parishes' extends some 10 miles along the North-East coast of Norfolk, from Bacton down to Waxham, an area edged by sea and sandy beaches. There is a short sea front and promenade at Walcott and, thereafter, cliffs and sand dunes down to Waxham. Inland comprises mainly farmland and small hamlets, with the edge of the Norfolk Broads about ten minutes away by car. The total adult population of the seven parishes is approximately 3500, with a mix of private, council and holiday homes, and several small caravan sites.

Of the nine mediaeval Church buildings in the parishes, three are thatched, all are reasonably well-maintained, and eight are used regularly. All parishes work hard at fund-raising, of necessity, each having its own tradition of fetes, exhibitions, garden sales etc. and most parishes are able to contribute their Parish Share allocation each year.

In addition to the Rector who lives in Happisburgh, an Ordained Local Minister lives in Walcott.  Three licensed Readers also serve in our parishes - one lives in Happisburgh, one in Hempstead, and one in Waxham.
